Probably the most exciting aspect of adding the “plus” element to MAE is getting peer into all of your creative brains. It is so cool getting to see what comes out of your minds every week. And from what I can tell, you have been surprising yourselves too!
Sometimes your concepts and ideas appear similar to others. But the way you decide to execute them also factors into your ideas — your lines, your colors, your composition, your perspective, all of it. No one can do it like YOU do.
And do you know what’s even better? Generating ideas is a skill, just like drawing, which means you can get better at that too! Just like drawing, the more you work at it, the better you become at doing it. Keep getting those ideas out of your head and onto paper (or iPad screen in our case!)
This month we’re entering the animal kingdom! BUT we’re gettin’ a little weird at the same time. Each week this month will prompt you to go beyond the obvious. This week’s “plus” is to draw the animal in something OTHER than the colors you’d see in real life. With so many options, where do you begin? I am very guilty of always coloring my work as I see it in life, and preparing for this week has been a challenge…but also super fun!
To help you out I created something new: The Bardot Brush Color Palette Library. I’ve put together dozens of Procreate palettes made form images that have inspired me. Lots of fun colorful stuff in there! Feel free to use any in your artwork this week!
And even when you find a palette you like, what do you do with it? You’re in luck, because I also made you a tutorial about how to apply the colors in a palette to an illustration. Check it out below!
I hope you have fun experimenting with color this week!
