Week eight

I want to express how PROUD I am of you! The focus of the past week was drawing fur, which is an intimidating undertaking. I was so impressed by how many of you lept out of your comfort zone to try something new. Attempting a new skill and then sharing your creations requires a lot of vulnerability. You should be so proud of yourselves!

The Making Art Everyday challenge is about making time to be creative, but more importantly, it’s overcoming fears and self-doubt and quieting the voice that says “I’m just not creative” or, “I can’t do this”. It’s learning that creativity is as human as needing to feel loved. It’s giving yourself the gift of self-expression through art. It’s about stretching yourself. It’s putting in the minutes that lead to hours that lead to days that lead to years that transform you into a skilled artist and self-actualized person. It’s about opening doors for yourself to do things you never thought possible.

Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. You are doing an amazing job.

What students are saying about my Skillshare class!

“What a wonderful class! I never thought I would be able to draw fur… and here I am, drawing fur that actually looks like fur. I couldn’t be happier! I can’t wait for more classes!”
-Natasha Gardner

“I have a fear of fur, specifically drawing it. Lisa’s course is a great way to understand the texture, light and dark that make fur. Really enjoyable class. The class material is first class! I can’t wait to paint my dog (who is a very furry)! Wonderful class!”
-Mark Sta ana

“The class and brushes are fur-tastic. Can’t recommend it enough.”
-Dandi Things

Week 8: Water Animals

This week we’ve got a variety of animals that you’d find in or around the water. If you pushed yourself this week with fur, give yourself permission to take it a little easier this week. Sustainability is key! If you want an extra challenge, here are some suggestions!

  • Try using brushes you’ve never used before
  • Learn about drawing water to add to the background of your pieces
  • Use unexpected colors for your animals
  • Apply a creative limitation to your work

This Week's Tutorial

I’m so excited to be back for another live tutorial! Join me as I walk you through drawing this furry kitty! If it looks a little intimidating, fear not, I’ll be walking you through every step. (I can’t wait to show you how to do those eyes!) I’ll be using my new Fur & Fluff brushes, so be sure to download for FREE prior to the live session.

Just a head’s up, this tutorial may take a bit longer than our usual live tutorials, but if you’re unable to attend the entire session, I’ll be posting it to my website after so you can finish up anytime.

Have some fun playing with color using the Procreate 5x feature Gradient Maps, as well as blend modes. It will be a great way to get your thinking outside the box with color!

This crab illustration was created with our awesome Multi-Tonal Markers! With these brushes, you can create brilliant color effects, authentic-looking marker drawings, creative lettering pieces, unique illustrations and more. In this video, I’ll teach you all the ins and outs of using these brushes!
