Week forty-nine

This week has been a busy one, so I don’t have much to say except THANK YOU!

I’m always (but especially this week) filled with gratitude for members of our community such as you. Thank you for showing up and drawing with me. Thank you for sharing your work and supporting other art-makers. Thank you for giving yourself time and space to devote to creativity. Thanks to your support, I can keep creating tools and tutorials and provide for my family doing something I absolutely love. Not a day goes by that I take that for granted. Thank you.

If you missed Friday’s live tutorial, you can watch it here! It was a really fun session, and I have LOVED getting to see everyone’s adorable polar bears they made by following along. I can’t wait to see yours too! Share online with the hashtag #bbpolarbear.

Week 49: Sketching from Life pt. 5

One more week of sketching from life! I hope you have enjoyed finding interesting subject matter in the things that surround you on a daily basis. As much as we seek out new and exciting inspiration, our best work is usually born from our everyday experiences.

As a reminder, our prompts this month are things you’d find in your everyday life. The challenge is to find that item, and draw it as you see it. I recommend sticking to a simple pencil brush, but do what is most comfortable to you. The last day of each week will give you the opportunity to get a bit more creative by taking your favorite sketch from the week and fully finishing it with color!

The Prompts

For this week’s MAE prompts, I threw in a tricky one: your hand. Drawing hands is notoriously difficult, but doing hard things is how you grow! So be brave and give it a try. To help you, check out the Hands lesson from my People Skills series! There are lots of tips about observing a hand and breaking it down into simple shapes so that it’s easier to draw.
