Week forty-six

Permission to take it slow.

The purpose of Making Art Everyday is to give yourself time every day to do something that brings you joy. To push yourself beyond your comfort zone, yes, but never to stress you out. As with any of the prompts, tutorials, but especially Scene School, take it at your own pace. You don’t have to keep up with the prompts if you don’t feel that you can. It will all be here for you whenever you choose to take it on.

As for Scene School, if you want to spend more than a week on a scene, do it! If you want to skip a week, do it! The more you try, the more you’ll learn, of course, but there is no time limit on learning. Anytime is a good time to try something new.

I know I’m not alone in saying that this year has been CRAZY (but hopefully will be getting better soon!) so go easy on yourself. I’m habitually guilty of pressuring myself and not giving myself the grace to slow down when I should. If you need someone to give you permission, I’m happy to be that person for you. Take it easy, draw joyfully, and stay rested. Sending you lots of love.

What to Do

  • Give my latest tutorial a watch (below) to get a better understanding of the Scene School  process  and make a plan  of your own  approach to learning  scenes this month!

New Tutorial!

My first Scene School video tutorial is complete! In it, I’ll give you a comprehensive overview of the entire Scene School procress and I’ll walk you through how I drew my final Lake Tahoe scene.

November Prompts

This week for Scene School, you will draw a Rural Scene. A Rural Scene is a mostly natural environment with at least one human-made structure. After last week, I hope you are a bit more comfortable drawing wild and organic things, so this week we will introduce some inorganic things such as a building, tools, and other objects. My plan for the week is to draw a garden and/or greenhouse. What will you draw?

Some Ideas are a farmhouse, barn, treehouse, cabin, desert home, greenhouse, lighthouse, etc.

Head over to the Rural Scene section of Scene School for instructions about how to approach each prompt this week that will result in a fully developed rural scene!
