Week forty-five

I’ve got something exciting planned for MAE November…

Raise your hand if you are guilty of leaving white backgrounds on all your drawings! Do you feel overwhelmed by putting together a scene? Do you want to tell more of a story in your illustrations? Scene School is here to help!

Follow along and learn how to draw scenes and discover your style, one piece at a time.

I know so many of us struggle with drawing backgrounds and creating scenes. In fact, how to draw backgrounds was one of the most-requested topics in the tutorial survey I recently sent out. I hear you, and I’m SO excited to start Scene School with you.

What to Do

  • Head over to the Scene School home page and read it through to get an idea of how we’ll me using our MAE time this month.
  • Start to think of the types of scenes you might want to do this month!

November Prompts

scene school!

For the next month, we are going to dedicate each entire week to building a single scene through Scene School. We’ll do this in an easy, approachable way by researching, drawing, and developing each scene’s component individually before bringing everything together to build an entire scene. I’ll also teach you about drawing fundamentals like atmospheric perspective, background/middle ground/foreground, one and two-point perspective, and more. Tutorials are in the works! The types of scenes we’ll be covering this month are Nature, Rural, Interior, and Urban, spending a whole week on each.

This upcoming week we’ll be drawing a nature scene. Now is the time to decide what type of environment you want to depict in your nature scene. Some ideas are a desert scene, oceanside, the forest, mountains, a lake, jungle, etc. Choose something that speaks to you!

Head over to the Nature Scene section of Scene School for instructions about how to approach each prompt this week that will result in a fully developed nature scene!
