Week THIRTY-TWO

Four years ago, I decided to commit to drawing something every day for a year. I wanted to improve my drawing skills and begin to discover my artistic style. But I got something much more meaningful out of the experience.

I wasn’t using prompts at the time, just drawing whatever came to mind. One unexpected result of all of this impromptu drawing was that I often drew what was going on in my life, creating a time capsule of that year. I look back at the art I created that year and am instantly transported back to that time and what I was experiencing (namely being pregnant with my daughter!)

I can’t stress the importance of creating art inspired by your personal experiences. For this month in Making Art Everyday, we are going to do just that. The theme for August is “Time Capsule.” The prompts will encourage you to get personal and draw from the heart to document your life as we live through such an unprecedented time.

What to Do

  • Getting personal with your art isn’t always the easiest, it requires you to be vulnerable, dig deep, and share your life. Look to the Making Art Everyday group for support and try to respond to as many prompts as you can this month!

TIME CAPSULE

We’ve all been living through the Coronavirus pandemic and thus been spending a lot more time at home. Let’s document our most familiar location: our homes. We’ll be easing into Time Capsule month by drawing some vignettes from around your home. You can approach the prompts by drawing a small scene, a piece of furniture, objects from your home, or however you wish. So be sure to look around and use what you see at home to make art this week!

Because it takes a lot to create truly personal art, I didn’t want to burden you by having an overly-challenging “plus” this month. Instead, I’d suggest you focus on getting to know Procreate better! I will be releasing some of my favorite Procreate tips as video tutorials this month. Be sure to subscribe to the Bardot Brush YouTube channel to be the first to watch the tutorials! Stay tuned!

In the meantime, here’s a Stay Home and Draw tutorial where I teach you how to draw a house (perfect for Monday’s prompt!) I cannot wait to see the art you make from the place you live!
