Week 28 | July 5-11
animals & creatures
Welcome to Kid’s Month!
If you are a kid (or you have kids):
Get ready to learn about making art the digital way, using an iPad and Procreate, while we spend a whole month making art! Of course, you are also welcome to join in the traditional way and follow along making art with paper and your favorite art supplies.
If you are a grown-up:
Since we all used to be kids, it’s time to get in touch with your inner child! Think about what it was like to be very young and uninhibited in your creativity. “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!” as the illustrious Ms. Frizzle would say. So let your imagination run wild this month! Or perhaps you are interested in making art FOR kids – maybe you have goals of being a children’s book illustrator! This will be a great time to focus on developing an illustration style that appeals to kids.
I’ve made a webpage that will serve as a home base for everything that is going on this month – and there’s a lot! You can find that page at bardotbrush.com/kids. It’s got a full schedule of all the tutorials and other fun stuff that is going on during Kid’s Month.
Here’s what you can look forward to during Kid’s month:
Watch my Procreate for Kids Tutorial to get to know Procreate, then have fun drawing these animal prompts!
Each prompt this week might inspire you to draw and design your own coloring pages, or download one of my free Procreate coloring pages to color however you’d like! On July 9, I’ll be giving a live tutorial about drawing and creating your own Procreate coloring pages. On July 12, I’ll host another live tutorial where we’ll color a Procreate coloring page together!
This set of prompts is designed to tickle your imagination and get you thinking of far-off adventures! So get outrageous and inventive!
Our community asked kids what they wanted to draw, and from that, I created this group of fun drawing prompts. Ever wanted to turn your art into STICKERS? On Friday, July 30, I’ll be hosting another live tutorial where we’ll draw some cool art together, and I talk to you about making stickers! Not only that, but we’ll be giving away $500 worth of credit from StickerApp, where you can order professionally printed stickers of your art!
Be sure to grab my FREE “Kids Make Art!” brush set for Procreate! It’s got all your favorite art supplies you loved as a child and is perfect for little Procreate artists too!
Week 28: Animals & Creatures
These prompts are of real-world and imaginary critters and creatures. Let your imagination run wild with these prompts – you don’t have to draw them just like they look in real life or how you’ve seen them in pictures before. Instead, imagine the animals with unusual colors, or as hybrids where you combine two animals together, or maybe the animals can be doing unusual actions – like a unicorn riding a bicycle!
Before you get started, be sure to watch my Procreate for Kids Tutorial!
The best place to catch the live stream is on the Bardot Brush YouTube Channel. Don’t forget: You can watch or re-watch the previous livestreams on my tutorials page on Bardot Brush!
Hey kids! If you want to learn how to use Procreate, my seven-year-old son Bear and I have got you covered! Follow along as the two of us teach you everything you need to know to get started using Procreate: how to create a new canvas, choosing colors, using different brushes, the eraser, and other tools, how to use layers, how to move things around and make them bigger or smaller, making shapes, and more! This video is designed for kids who are just getting started using Procreate. Let’s learn!
The second week of Kid’s Month will be all about coloring pages – either making them or coloring them. This Friday, I’m teaching a live tutorial about how to design and create your very own coloring pages in Procreate! I’ll take you through laying out your scene, making a sketch, how to make clean line art, and setting up your files if you want to offer them as a .Procreate download or a printable PDF.
(its a .Procreate file, so you can keep track of your progress right in Procreate!)
You’ll find instructions about how to use the Tracker at the link above. I even made you a star stamp brush for you to use! It’s my Procreate version of a gold star sticker.
We’ve got a Facebook group just for participants of Making Art Everyday and all things Bardot Brush! Come join our group of supportive artists of all skill levels, share your work, ask questions, and be a part of the community!
I’m the owner of Bardot Brush, one of the leading brush makers for Procreate. If you’d like to support me, please check out my premium brush sets that inspire creativity at bardotbrush.com.
