Week fourteen

đź‘Ź GIVE đź‘Ź YOURSELF đź‘Ź A đź‘Ź HAND! đź‘Ź

If you were following along with Making Art Everyday last month and participating in People Skills, then now is the moment for you to take a deep breath, smile, and be super proud of yourself. Spending four weeks practicing drawing people is no easy task. If the entire past month felt like a struggle, you’ll be surprised how little things you learned will “click” as you continue your art-making practice and move on to drawing other things.

For now, let’s take a turn toward some less challenging subject matter. Our MAE theme for April starts Monday, and we’ll be taking things easy by surrounding ourselves with the beauty that nature has to offer.

April's Theme:

PLANTS

This month is all about plants! We will be exploring drawing various plant types, from houseplants to tropical plants, plants through the seasons, a deep dive into flowers, and even some rather unusual plants. Let us become at one with nature and enjoy some relaxing time drawings plants this month!

Week 14: Potted Plants

Are you a plant parent? I’m a little obsessed with house plant illustrations. I like real house plants and all, and I’ve even managed to keep a few in my house alive, but the kind you draw will NEVER die, so that’s a huge plus. There is a ton of great inspiration for this one — just search Pinterest for “house plant illustration” and you won’t be disappointed. You can stylize all the cool leaf shapes and patterns, you can go crazy designing cute pots to put them in, you can draw them on a shelf or in a window — there are so many possibilities.

The best place to catch the live stream is on the Bardot Brush YouTube Channel. Don’t forget: You can watch or re-watch the previous livestreams on my tutorials page on Bardot Brush!

Follow along with me as I show you how to draw a trio of house plants in Procreate. For this drawing, I’ll be using brushes from my Multi-Tonal Markers. This set can achieve some really interesting color effects, I think you are going to love the look and feel you can create with it. Plus we’ll be exploring the Procreate masks feature, so if you are curious about how to use alpha lock, clipping masks, and layer masks in Procreate, this will be a great one for you!

In this workshop, I’ll be covering all the Procreate basics, and then doing a follow-along drawing where we’ll learn about all the most essential Procreate tools and features as we create a fun cactus illustration!

Another cactus tutorial! Feeling a little stagnant in your style? I made you a fun tutorial showing 6 different ways to color and stylize a cactus! It’s a great way to get some ideas on how to finish a drawing.
