I spent the better part of this week cycling through extreme excitement and utter frustration.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I’m working on a new set of Procreate brushes! Exciting! Less exciting? I feel like I just keep hitting a wall with this set. Maybe it’s my perfectionism, or maybe it’s that they’re just not “there” yet. But about 30 minutes before writing this, I was lying on my office floor, splayed out staring at the ceiling, considering pumping the brakes on the whole set. The only thing that stopped be from doing that (aside from, you know, the whole providing for my family thing) is that I am VERY familiar with that feeling.

The creative process is HARD. It never fails that I reach a point in a project where I hate everything I’ve done and want to give up. I’m sure you’re familiar with that feeling too. But the thing I’ve learned is that feeling is just a part of the process. Creativity is magical, but it’s not magic. It takes work and it has it’s tribulations. But if we are persistent and keep going, the feeling will pass and we’ll reach an outcome that gives us that delicious creative euphoria.

So as we finish MONTH THREE (woah) of this project, I urge you to keep going! If it’s feeling hard, take a step back, take care of your yourself in whatever way you need, and then get back to it. You got this.

What to Do

  • If you feel like you’ve hit a wall, stop and do something else that makes you happy and feel good. Then hop back in and keep going!
