Week Thirteen

Wow, guys. In the span of a week, it feels like our whole world has been turned upside-down.

In many ways, what we’re going through will change us forever. In small ways and in significant ways. My hope is that this has some lasting effects that change us for the better. I don’t want to downplay the tragic, scary, unknown parts of going through this pandemic, but I see so much good happening at the same time. I see people trying to help each other cope as best they can. I see accommodations being made for those in more vulnerable situations. I see people focusing more on their families, their homes, and themselves. I see people offering up themselves to help make this “stay-at-home time” more positive, more full of life, color, learning, creativity, and hope. And I foresee people learning how to live a little more simply and think about what we really NEED in our lives.

With all the uncertainty, I try to remain hopeful about where we’ll be as a world when we come out on the other side (whenever that may be). Try to spread as much goodness and compassion as you can right now. Share your art, share your knowledge, share your experiences. It’s true, we’re all being separated from each other right now, but we are all in this TOGETHER.

Everyday this past week, I’ve done a live stream of me drawing. On Friday, I even held my first-ever live Procreate workshop! I’m getting to connect with you, talk about what’s going on with me, answer your questions, and put some creative light out into the world. It has been as helpful to me as I hope it has been to you. I’m not a doctor, I can’t save lives, but I can help by making lives richer with creativity. It all matters.

What to Do

  • We are currently living through incredibly an historic time. In times such as these, artists and creators have the unique ability to make the real, raw documentation that we’ll look back on years from now. Create something, be it drawing, writing, or other creative outlet, to express your current situation and how you feel about what is going on around you and in your own life.

This, my friends, is what Making Art Everyday has been preparing you for. The purpose of MAE is to hone your skills by drawing a wide range of subject matter, and to practice, practice, practice. So when the time comes that you have something within you that you want to express or create, you have the skills to do it. And THAT kind of art is more important than following any prompt list.

Stay tuned for more live draw videos where we can hang and draw together, I can answer your questions, and show you some cool Procreate tips and tricks! I’ve been going live during the week around 10 or 11 am PST.
