Week TEN

Welcome to March! Later this month will mark the official start of spring.

I heard a quote from a friend today that really struck me. “Nothing in nature blooms all year”. I think it’s really easy to get caught up in the idea that, as creative people, WE MUST BE CONSTANTLY CREATING THINGS. The pressure is especially great with the constant stream of new creations we see on social media. And I know participation in a “making art everyday” project might seem like it feeds into that. But creativity, just like everything else, ebbs and flows. And the time where we feel less creative are the times where we’re meant to absorb our surroundings and the things that provide us inspiration.

What to Do

Now that we are entering the third month, I’d like for you to start to take notice of your creative rhythms. For most people, creativity behaves like a cycle, with times of passion and production, followed by times of a quiet (or even tired) mind. Embrace this and try not to feel like you “should” be doing more during those times.

Plants

March is plant month! A celebration of all things green, colorful, and natural. And our first week we’ll be drawing trees! I chose the particular trees below for their sculptural shapes and unique details or colors. I’d definitely utilize the reference photos on these if you are unfamiliar with these trees. I think you will love them!
