Let’s start things off right by making a plan. MAE this year will include a weekly goal and monthly project in addition to the daily prompts you’ve come to know and love. As a result, you can set goals that work for you, and there will always be something for you to follow.
Choose your path, but be flexible with your goals! The key is to keep going and not give up so feel free to adapt the MAE offerings to suit your needs.
…you estimate that you will be able to draw 1-4 times per month. Each week, I’ll highlight one of the daily prompts with a tutorial or resource to help you. It’s perfect for people who do better with a starting point or benefit from having directions to follow.
…you are comfortable working a little at a time towards something that will result in a more involved finished product. It’s perfect for people who enjoy working on a self-paced project alongside others.
…you want to establish a habit of drawing daily (or often). These prompts are designed to be simple and will introduce you to a breadth of subject matter. They are also perfect for any random day when you feel like drawing something: open the prompts page, look at the daily prompt, and get to it!
About this month’s theme: I always kick off MAE with food as our first theme of the year! When you’re getting into the habit of drawing, it’s a great way to start. Food is universal and instantly recognizable. Whether you wish to draw something simple or detailed, there is a lot of room to get creative.
It’s our first project of the year! Choose your favorite recipe (I’ll also provide some options!) and create an illustrated recipe. Get the full scoop about it below.
I love fruits and vegetables as a subject matter, they come in a wide variety of colors and shapes, are relatively simple to draw, and are the perfect way to jump into a year of drawing. In keeping up with the last three years the January 1st prompt is orange!
Sat: orange
Sun: tomato
Mon: banana
Tues: root vegetables
Wed: pear
Thurs: eggplant
Fri: peas
Sat: strawberry
Sun: corn
