Week one

Welcome to Week One of Making Art Everyday 2021! It’s a mini week, only three days long, but I’ll use it to introduce something important that will help you be successful in establishing your art-making habit: goal setting and Progress Trackers!

In the past, I’ve noticed that a lot of you felt like you were “falling behind” if you weren’t able to complete the prompts each day. I’m here to tell you that the goal of MAE isn’t to complete all the prompts. The goal is to give yourself time each day to be creative. We call it “Making Art Everyday” not “Complete a Prompt Everyday!” P.S. Even if you don’t get to spend time drawing every single day, that’s ok too! Set a goal that works for you

(Re)introducing MAE Progress Trackers

Each  month you’ll set two goals:

  1. How many days you want to draw.

  2. How many prompts you want to complete.

For example, you could set a goal to spend 15 days working through 7 prompts.

This goal setting will give you the flexibility to pick and choose the prompts from each week that speak to you the most. Plus, it will take off the pressure to “stay caught up”.

Remember: You are on your own path, set goals that work for you. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is your past self.

Find out how to get the free tracker below the prompts!

January's Theme:

Food

January’s theme is FOOD! Food is so universal and very recognizable. You can draw something simple or detailed, and there is lots of room to put your creative spin on it if you so choose. This month will have plenty of straightforward, specific prompts, but we’ll finish the month with some open ended-prompts to allow you to express yourself

Week 1: Fruit

Let’s get fruity this week! My advice is to keep it simple this week as you are starting to establish your habit. Go to the prompts page, where you will find links to reference photos for each prompt. Don’t worry too much about being super creative with it this week. Do the first idea that pops into your head and see what you can get done in 15-30 minutes of drawing. And remember: you can always work on a prompt for multiple days. Look back to your goals and pace yourself! YOU GOT THIS
