Making Art Everyday is a year-long series of prompts, tutorials, and motivation to help you establish a daily art-making practice. We hope you’ll join us in #makingarteveryday in 2019. New prompts are posted every Sunday night. For more inspirational goodness follow along on instagram at @bardotbrush and sign up for the Newsletter Squad.

On your iPad, open Procreate and Safari in split screen view and navigate to makingarteveryday.com. You’ll see the week’s prompts and tutorial to help you learn and be inspired.

Tap any of the prompts to get image references instantly.

Now get to it! Draw your own interpretation of the prompt.

Don’t forget to post and share your work. Sharing can sometimes be a scary thing but it’s really important for your growth to share and ask for feedback. Plus with all your impending practice, it’s great to have a record of how far you’ve come. Don’t forget to say you’re #makingarteveryday!

Just a little over a year from now will be the start of a new decade. And not just any decade. It’s gonna be the Twenties. And for many people, myself in particular, that’s kind of exciting. Maybe it’s the the romanticism of the 1920’s — what with the flapper dresses, roaring parties, and killer slang, but I feel like it’s going to be a special decade. A lot of really exciting things are going to happen. You are going to do something amazing in the twenties — but 2019 is the last year of this decade. And we’re going to use that that year to plant a seed in ourselves to let something grow.

Starting on January 1st, we’re going on a journey together, because I know a lot of you have conflicted feelings toward creativity. Like, you are intensely passionate about it, love the way you feel when you’re practicing it, the places it takes you and the ways it lets you express yourself, but it’s hard to justify prioritizing time for it in your life. It causes you fear, feelings of inadequacy, of being judged, of being vulnerable. With so much turmoil in the world right now, the plight of creativity seems a bit superfluous. But when times get rough and hope seems lost, the role of the artist actually becomes even more important.

Creativity is fundamental and needs to be a part of our daily lives, not just something we “treat” ourselves to seldomly. It’s a means of expressing things inside us we don’t have words for, of solving problems and spreading ideas, of stress relief and self fulfillment, of feeling inside us passion and pride.

Announcing Making Art Everyday, a series of drawing prompts, tutorials, an motivation to help you overcome creative fears and establish a daily art-making practice. This is especially for those of you that don’t know where to begin. I choose drawing as jumping off point, as it is fundamental to so many other art forms. And I choose the iPad as your tool, as it is extremely portable and flexible and gives you access to unlimited mediums and colors, removing the barriers of tedious setup and making a mess. This year will be about learning and establishing art as necessary in our lives. We’ll be starting with just ten minutes a day, simple achievable prompts, helpful tutorials, and then we’ll slowly build upon that throughout the year. I’ve got some really fun stuff planned and I cannot wait for you to join me on this journey of #makingarteveryday!
